FURRY FANDOM ORIGIN POSTER by wolf117M FURRY FANDOM ORIGIN POSTER by wolf117M
Many don't know the history of their own fandom! (i conducted a small interview with furries and non furries alike) and nobody could tell me where the fandom ACTUALLY came from. i did a little research and figured out it started at a sci fi con with a writer's book that had to do with anthros. at first the fandom was just a few people meeting at sci fi cons, but it grew from there. many furries have strayed from their roots in sci fi, so i made this pic for ALL FURRIES: don't forget your roots!

All characters belong to their respective game/movie and were not drawn by me!

I totally agree with this. This is partly what got me into the idea of anthros in the first place.

huh, makes sense. some guy (or girl) writes a story about some science experiment going wrong and getting turned into an anthro then it grows from there.

I can honestly say that I didn't know this, but it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Sci-Fi is my favorite genre of literature, which is followed very closely by, if not tied by anthropomorphic fiction. Not saying that science fiction has any bearing on me being a furry, but it's a good connection. After all Michael Crichton (R.I.P.) had a character in his novel Next that was genetically engineered Monkey-boy named Dave.

How I got mixed up I will never know.I admit I see some potential in furry based characters, but the public oppinion on the fandom and the fandom itself needs well a good kick in the ass to get back on track.

so true. every group has their extremists, who usually ruin the name of the whole group. :(

The problem with furdom is that it is an extremist group mostly, while regular artists get more and more outcast, ruined or scolded.

Actually I had found this out quite a while ago. I had a paper to do for my american history class. Furries have been a huge influence on culture for longer than most know, here is the paper [link] . Hope it makes you proud of the fandom's roots, I know it made me proud.

Hey, maybe the logo could be a cross, with a crown of thorns. Just a thought. I drew it this morning and it looked pretty good.

I am a huge Sci-Fi fanatic and am well aware of this origin, and I am proud of it, just as I am proud Commander of the NXC-4126 Aero. (My starship)

Technically, some people are half-correct. The only reasons most anthro even survived (Which became furry) Came from Greek Mythology and Aesop's Fables (Ancient anthro/ animals with human traits stories)

Sci-fi and comic conventions revamped the basic idea of the half man/ half animal theory.
